Emergency Apologetics
This section is not designed to help Muslims and Christians defend or argue with each other. It is designed to help them give basic answers to some of the deadly misunderstandings early on their relationship that might suffice until deeper levels of discussion can take place as the relationships grow.
Our goal is not to win an argument but to gain a friend and have respectful dialogue concerning the Gospel. (Genesis 12:1-3; Deuteronomy 18:18).
For Christians:
Why Haven't You Become A Muslims?
RESPONSE: “You know that I’m a Christian, which means I’m not a follower of your religion, your prophet or your holy book. However, if you use the word ‘Muslim’ (‘surrendered’) in the truest sense - as one who is surrendered to God -- then I am already that. I have surrendered my life to God and have been made completely clean through the mighty blood sacrifice of Messiah Jesus.”
The Bible Has Been Corrupted..
RESPONSE: “Do you believe that God is all powerful? Of course you do! Then isn’t He powerful enough to protect His own Word? Of course He is! There is no way that God would allow His Word to be changed. No, the Bible has not been corrupted.” (SEE Yunus 10:64)
(Don’t forget to smile!) Note that this response is not based on a logical sequence of events or details; It is focused on God’s character.
God’s word is unchangeable (Al-Ana’m 6:116; Al-Khaf 18:27)
Concerning the Torah which is Genesis to Deuteronomy (Al-Ma’ Ida 5:44; Al-Ana’m 6:92; Ghafir 40:53; Al-Ahqat 46:12)
Concerning the Gospel (Al-Ma’Ida 5:46-47)
Concerning the cancelled or annulled scriptures (Al-Bagarah 2:106; Al-Hajj 22:52)
The Qur’an supports the earlier holy books (Al-Imran 3:3; Fatir 35:31; Al-Ahqat 46:12, 30)
Commanded to obey the earlier books (Al-Ma’Ida 5:68)
The Qur’an is for those who have received no earlier revelations (As-Sajdah 32:3)
Commanded to believe in all the holy books (An-Nisa 4:136; Ash-Shura 42:15)
Jesus Is NOT The Son Of God..
RESPONSE: “The term ‘son’ shows deep respect, relationship, and intimacy. In the Bible, Jesus is known by many terms: ‘Son of David, ’‘Son of Man, ’as well as ‘Son of God.’ None implies physical sonship resulting from the sexual union of a man and woman. In the Qur’an, a term is used for a wanderer or wayfarer on a journey, called Ibn Sabeel (Ibn-sa-BEEL), or Son of the Road. Does this mean that they two roads had sexual intercourse, which physically resulted in another road? Of course not! In the same way, when Jesus is called the Son of God, it is a respectful term implying an intimate relationship.”
“We followers of Jesus also believe that God does not have a biological son. Nor do we believe God had a physical relationship with Mary. We agree that Isa Al Masiih (Jesus the Messiah) was born of a virgin. He had no earthly father. He originated only from God. This is why the Injeel (Gospels) calls Jesus the ‘Son of God.’”
Perhaps share Surah 19:19-22
Christians Believe In 3 gods..
RESPONSE: “Christians also believe there is only one God. In the OT of the Bible, we find one of God’s most significant statements to His people: ‘The LORD our God, the LORD is one’ (Deuteronomy 6:4). No, Christians do not believe in three gods.”
You could also add that Christians do believe God can appear functionally in different forms. For example, God appeared to Moses in the form of a burning bush. (This is also in the Qur’an)
You can also say, “We believe that God has a spirit (His living essence) and a word (His spoken personality) who took the form of a man, Messiah Jesus. In the Qur’an, Jesus is also known as God’s Spirit and God’s Word.
Just as Muslims believe the Qur’an is eternal and uncreated in heaven as the word of God, but later became a book on earth, we Christians believe that the uncreated word of God in heaven became not a book but a man on earth called Jesus. We believe that Jesus is the divine word of God in flesh like they believe the Qur’an is the divine word in book form. How do you separate God from his word?
What Do You Think About Muhammad?
RESPONSE: “You know that Muhammad is not my prophet; he is yours. Although I do not believe exactly what you believe about him, I do respect him. Politically, he was a reformer, a statesman, and a national leader. Religiously, he called idolatrous people back to worship the one true God. He also said many positive things about my Lord Jesus. I believer each of these reasons make him worthy of my respect.”
What Do You Think About The Qur'an?
RESPONSE: “As a Christian, you know that the Qur’an is not my book; it is yours. Although I don’t believe exactly what you believe about the Qur’an, I do read it. I appreciate it because of the many wonderful and beautiful things it says about my Lord Messiah Jesus.”
RESPONSE: “I affirm God’s truth where ever it may be found.”
Was Muhammad Prophesied About In The Bible?
RESPONSE: “I do believe that God, in the Bible, prophesied about a very special prophet who would come in the future. A few of the prophecies could be confused with Muhammad. However, there are more than 300 prophecies, which are very specific .As I have studied them, I believe there is only one person who could (and did) fulfill each of them - the Messiah Jesus, Son of Mary. Sometime, would you like to look at a few of these prophecies?”
RESPONSE: “I affirm God’s truth where ever it may be found.”
For Muslims:
Muslims Are Our Enemies
RESPONSE: We Muslims are not your enemies. The Qur’an says that Christians are nearest in affection and spiritual kinship. We love Jesus and believe much of what you believe about him. He is the Word and Spirit of God, a mercy from God, the Messiah, the sinless one, and a true prophet and messenger. We believe he ascended into heaven and will return on the Day of Judgment.
Our scholars and scriptures are in agreement that we can find commonality with Christians on three things: 1) There is one God; 2) We are to love him above all else and 3) We are to love our neighbor as ourselves.
We believe the Tawrat (Torah), Injil (Gospel) and Zabur (Psalms), also known as the former books, are true in their original manuscripts. We affirm all the prophets and messengers that came before Muhammad. We honor you as our nearest of spiritual kin. It would go against the message the Qur’an to hate you and treat you as enemies.
Muhammad Is A False Prophet
RESPONSE: We realize that it is often hard for Christians to see Muhammad as a prophet in the same stream of the prophets who came before him such as Jesus, Moses, David, and the other prophets and messengers. But it is important to look at the message of the prophet and compare it with the prophets before him or her.
The core message of the beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was that is there is no god but Allah, the One True God, who created heaven and earth and everything in them. Man is God’s slave, and it is his first duty to submit to God and obey him. God’s goodness and mercy are seen in his provision for all the needs of men, and men must be grateful. A great and terrible Judgment Day is coming, when the earth will be shaken, and God will raise all the dead to life, and will judge them. He will reward with the pleasures of a sensual paradise those who worship him and do good deeds, and will condemn to the fires of hell those who do evil deeds, the worst of which is associating other gods with God.
Is this core message in harmony with the messages of the prophets before? This is why we believe that Muhammad was a prophet and messenger. Could we discuss his message and how we can find commonality in that message, begin a dialogue of friendship and find ways we can work together in order to make the world a better place?
The Qur'an Is A Book From The Devil
RESPONSE: We Muslims believe that the Qur’an was originally the message of God for the Arabic people. Now we believe it extends to the world. We believe that the Qur’an is not a new message but the continuation of what the former prophets and messengers have said before. We honor all the former books and prophets and we believe the Qur’an flows from that sacred stream. How could that be from the devil?
Allah Is Not God
RESPONSE: Allah is simply the Arabic name for God. It is not only Muslims who call God Allah, but Arab Christians have been calling him Allah for almost 2000 years.
